Dr. Fred Miller |
Seed research for Midstates Ag Services is done
by the foremost geneticist and researcher in sorghums
in the world, Dr. Fred Miller, who has developed
over 1700 sorghum materials and published over 350
articles on sorghum varieties, development and cultivation.

Dr.
Miller was educated primarily at Texas A&M University,
earning degrees in Business, Agronomy and Plant Breeding,
and then moving on to positions in research and serving
on the faculty of Texas A&M.
His research included evaluation, incorporation, and
dispersal of diversification within grain and food
types of sorghum, with specific interest in collection,
enhancement and utilization of sorghums from Africa,
Asia, China and South America.
|
His
goals were to combine desirable agronomic, physiologic,
pathologic and food quality traits into useful productive,
stable sorghums for use in tropical and subtropical
areas. His accomplishments in this research resulted
with increased yields and stability of harvestable
grain sorghum with superior food/grain quality worldwide.

Dr. Miller currently serves as Vice President and Senior
Sorghum Breeder in MMR Genetics, located in Vega,
Texas. His primary responsibility there is to develop
superior grain and forage sorghums for licensing to
third-parties. Research and cultivation emphasis is
on stable late, medium and early maturing grain sorghums
and new high quality forage sorghums, especially brown
midrib and photoperiod sensitive types (for direct
pasture, hay, green chop, silage, and renewable energy)
for use around the world. |
